SKIING |

Visitors to the Pyrenees
will find a full range of winter adventure sport opportunities,
from downhill and cross-country skiing to such activities as dog
sleighing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, miniskiing and many more innovative
new sports.
There are 16 ski resorts in the region. Visitors can enjoy downhill skiing at 10 of them and cross-country skiing at 8.

Pyrenean rivers are
powerful enough to enable visitors to enjoy a range of adventure
sports, including rafting, kayaking, canoeing, hydrospeed and canoe-raft,
all sports based on sailing down whitewater rivers at full speed.
Thanks to the quality of these waters, the Pyrenees have become
known as a key adventure sports destination, hosting
events such as the World Freestyle Kayaking Championship.

MOUNTAIN BIKING |

With over one hundred kilometres of different routes and
levels of difficulty, the Pyrenean counties are ideal territory
for mountain biking. There are mountain bike centres
in the following counties here: Alt Empordà, Alt Urgell,
Berguedà, Pallars Jussà, Ripollès, Solsonès
and Val d’Aran.
These centres, open to all, are designed especially with mountain
bikers in mind. The following services are available:

CYCLOTOURISM |

Another alternative
is cyclotourism, using the bicycle as the means of transport for
tourism. Several routes have been established,
including the Iron and Coal Route, which runs from
Ripoll to Girona, and the Carrilet Route, from
Girona to Sant Feliu de Guíxols on the Costa Brava. There
is also the Colonia Rosal Route near La Baells reservoir and dam,
and the Vall Fosca Route, between Lake Gento and Espui. These routes
are also known as vías verdes, greenways,
because they follow disused narrow gauge railway lines that have
now been converted into active tourism facilities.

The PIRINEUS brand
also offers visitors the chance to relax by playing golf, a sport
that more and more people are taking up every day. Thanks to the
quality of the facilities and the variety of the courses, several
Pyrenean golf clubs have been made the venue for international tournaments.
