Sports tourisme destinations

The presence of this distinction leads many athletes to select the Pyrenees as their training site, taking advantage of the contrasts in its landscape to practice all kinds of sports. You can come and train in the Pyrenees all year round.

Sport and adventure are inseparable in this natural jewel that offers you absolutely everything: mountains, valleys, untamed rivers, waterfalls, snow and trails....

Sort, the European temple of canoeing

Surrounded by a spectacular natural setting packed with great architectural and cultural wealth, Sort is one of the certified tourism destinations of the Catalan Pyrenees. In the lap of Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park and Alt Pirineu Natural Park, this town of just 2,000 inhabitants is home to a one-of-a-kind offering for the practice of canoeing. Experts from around the world don’t hesitate to rank the Noguera Pallaresa as one of the best rivers in Europe for practising whitewater sports, and its 40 navigable kilometres include segments of all levels, from the simplest stretches for children and beginners to the most demanding, grade V out of a scale of VI.

Make it happen

Moreover, the town has all the facilities and services an athlete could need and is prepared to host large international championships. Obviously, the athletic opportunities are not limited to canoeing, and the entire county of Pallars Sobirà is home to good places to stay, shops, restaurants and nature and adventure sports companies that offer rafting, hydrospeed, canyoning, horseback riding, hiking, skiing and more.

Enjoy the only permanent freestyle kayak stadium in Europe

The permanent freestyle kayak stadium in Sort is the only venue of its kind in Europe. No other town contains a permanent facility like this, with a standing wave that reduces the need for maintenance. When the new venue entered into operation, Sort and its area of influence became the flagship of whitewater kayaking in Europe. The new freestyle canoeing stadium in Sort ensures an optimal flow for the practice of this discipline (15-40 m3/s). The construction of these athletic facilities was a necessary condition for the Catalan Tourism Agency to certify the town of Sort as a Sports Tourism Destination.
