Alt Urgell County is in the heart of the Upper Pyrenees, in the valley of the River Segre. The county capital, La Seu d’Urgell, opens out onto a plain on which the main access routes to the Pyrenees converge. Alt Pirineu and Cadí-Moixeró Natural Parks are outstanding.

The county boasts a large, valuable cultural heritage, finding its highest expression in Romanesque art and architecture (e.g. Santa Maria Cathedral in La Seu d’Urgell, the church of Sant Climent in Coll de Nargó and the monastery of Sant Serni de Tavèrnoles in Anserall).

River Segre Olympic Park is the most emblematic sports facility in the county.
