The park is of great natural value and a refuge for several threatened species. Over the centuries, the area has witnessed much human activity, which has shaped the landscape as we see it today, with its rich archaeological and architectural heritage and primary sector activities such as pasturage and stockbreeding.

The sum of cultural heritage, unspoiled landscapes, and economic activity is what defines the character of this particular mountain territory.
