Following the path of the old narrow-gauge railway between Girona and Sant Feliu, the Carrilet Route takes its travellers through two counties, El Gironès and El Baix Empordà, with a gentle itinerary between great panoramic views.
This greenway runs along part of the old course of the so-called tren petit (“little train”) rail line which connected Palamós with Girona by way of La Bisbal d'Empordà.
The Pirinexus route offers 353km for hikers and bike lovers alike, combining physical exercise in beautiful outdoor surroundings with the added bonus of exploring the region.
Greenways are easy, safe, pleasant communication routes developed along natural paths and stretches of disused railway lines, designed for walkers, cyclists, non-motorised users, and persons with reduced mobility, to be used for leisure purposes and for journeys between activity centres. The routes are accessible and integrated into the natural environment. (Lille Declaration – 12 September 2000)
